Abstract

The possibilities of gaining theoretical knowledge in surgery are virtually unlimited. To acquire practical skills,however, the availability and willingness of the patient are the limiting factors. With the development of training tools and structured courses, experience can be gained independently of the clinical situation. To objectify and record individual performance and improvement, and to define further potential, a scoring system is necessary. Using the example of laparoscopic cholecystectomy, a training program was combined with an evaluation system and the beginners' learning curves were recorded during the course of a training week. The present study shows that first experiences and measurable improvements can be reliably assessed within one week's structured training on a simulation model.
