Abstract
Objective: investigation of INF-y and Neopterin as a diagnostic markers for recurrent respiratory tract diseases in children.
Methods: 30 patients aged 1-6 years were examined with a simple randomized method. Control group consisted of 15 healthy children of the same age. Examination involvement criteria were as follows:Pathological recurrent progressiveness of the respiratory system pathologies(5-7 episodes within the last year),with the parents' full agreement. Neopterin and INF-y were measured in serum by ELISA.
Results:
cytokine | First period of Recurrent disease | Last period of Recurrent disease | Control group | P |
INF_Y pg/ml | 9,2± 2,2 | 16,7±2,7 | 12,2± 3,2 | 1-2 <0,05 |
neopterini nmoli/l | 19,5± 1,2 | 22,6±2,7 | 7,2 ± 4,5 | 1-3 <0,05; 2-3 <0,05 |
Conclusions: The study shows that during viral infection rise of Neopterin is higher than in a bacterial infection. Amount of Neopterin is high in acute period of the respiratory disease and after adequate treatment concentration of Neopterin quickly returns to normal. Also after treatment high concentration of Neopterin is a risk factor of complication.
