Summary:
a) Normal appearances of the lung parenchyma on thin-section computed tomography in a patient breath-holding at full inspiration. Apart from the gradual increase in density of the lung parenchyma in the dependent-to-nondependent axis, the density of the lung parenchyma is homogeneous. b) At approximately the same anatomical level breath-holding at near residual volume (end-expiration), the density gradient is emphasised, but otherwise the attenuation of the lungs remain relatively uniform.
