Summary:
a) Pulse oximetry performed on night 1 in 0.1 L·min–1 of supplemental oxygen. Sleep-wave cycling is demonstrated with periods of active and quiet sleep characterised by heart rate variability. Analysis demonstrated intermittent desaturation during active sleep with a mean SpO2 of 98% and 4% oxygen desaturation index (ODI) of 4.64 times·h–1, appropriate for the post-conceptual age. b) Multiple transient episodes of desaturation clustered throughout night 2 (trial in air), more prominent during active sleep. Suspected awake periods were removed from the analysis. There was a mean SpO2 of 97% and an elevated 4% ODI of 19.89 times·h–1 for the post-conceptual age.
