Summary: 
a) A baseline chest computed tomography (CT) scan of 2-year-old girl with cystic fibrosis obtained while she was free breathing. The image was obtained using a very fast CT scanner (Somatom Definition Flash; Siemens, Erlangen, Germany). Extensive bronchiectasis is present, as well as large hypodense areas with trapped air (arrow). b) The CT scan was repeated 2 years later using a lung function technician-coached protocol. Mucus plugging is reduced and trapped air is substantially less. The severity and extent of bronchiectasis remained stable; however, not all anatomical structures are visible in the same plane.
