Summary:
Management of severe asthma. a) The current approach to management of severe asthma with evaluation, observation and treatment maximisation with inhaled corticosteroids (ICS), long-acting β-agonist (LABA) aerosol plus the addition of an oral corticosteroid (OCS). Other controllers may also be added. b) The use of biomarkers that can provide some phenotyping of severe asthma on the basis of which new specific treatments could be tried. Ig: immunoglobulin; EOS: eosinophils; NEU: neutrophils.
